Verified as Disabled or Delayed?

Free, appropriate developmental services and Services Coordination are dependent upon the MDT's verification of a "Developmental Delay" or a specific disability for children under the age of 3 years.

The MDT verifies the child as having special needs warranting early intervention and/or related services using the eligibility criteria outlined in Rule 51, (See Rule 51: 006.04B-N).

Failure to meet eligibility criteria does not always imply the lack of any delay or developmental concern, only the lack of sufficient delay to warrant free services through the public schools in Nebraska at this time.

Parents can decline any services recommended by the MDT (including Services Coordination) without jeopardizing other early intervention services made available to them now or in the future.

Once verified, the family and Services Coordinator begin to discuss needed or desired members to make up the IFSP team. This verification for early intervention services last throughout the child's need for early intervention up through their third birthday.
