New Issues Arise?

If new issues arise which may change the child's eligibility status or a parent's interest in services, a referral may again be made for early intervention services. This prompts the initiation of the IFSP process.

Example A
Referral #1: Jamal was referred at 1 year by a counselor working with his family due to his inability to communicate beyond simple gestures. Evaluations determined that his level of functioning was within normal limits.
Referral #2: Jamal was again referred at 2 years when his family began to notice that he failed to respond to auditory stimuli on a consistent basis. Evaluations were again conducted and it was determined that Jamal required hearing and speech interventions.
Example B
Referral #1: Marcy was referred at age one year by her pediatrician for delays in motor development. Evaluation determined eligibility for physical therapy and other early intervention services. However, the parents declined all services.
Referral #2: Marcy was again referred at age 26 months by her parents for concerns about her delay in walking. Evaluations again determined eligibility for a variety of early intervention services.
